Tornado Hits MSU Campus

Just prior to 3:00pm Sunday September 25, 2005 a tornado passed through the southeastern extent of the city of Starkville and entered the campus of MSU near the Wise Center . The tornado overturned a RV which was driving near the Forestry building and removed a section of roof from the Lloyd Ricks Annex. In addition, numerous trees were uprooted or snapped. The MSU Climate Lab recorded a wind gust of 68mph. as the tornado passed 100 yards north of Hilbun Hall. Upon leaving campus the tornado struck the University Hills mobile home park. Approximately 12 mobile homes were flipped and destroyed. Amazingly, all of the injuries both on-campus and in the mobile home park were superficial.

Below are the reports made to the National Weather Service (within minutes of touch-down) from the MSU Climate Lab.
