Dr. Boniface Fosu joined the Department of Geosciences at Mississippi State University in 2022 with a joint appointment at the Northern Gulf Institute. He received his B.S. in Meteorology and Climate Science at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in Ghana (2011). He received his M.S. (2014) and Ph.D. (2018) in Climate Science at Utah State University and proceeded to complete two postdoctoral research stints in tropical ocean interactions at the Georgia Institute of Technology and tropical cyclone risk modeling at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory. Dr. Fosu is currently an Assistant Professor of Meteorology and Climate Sciences at MSU.
Dr. Fosu’s research is broadly aimed at elucidating the mechanisms underlying climate variability and change, focusing on the dynamics that bridge any shifts with changes in extreme weather and climate conditions. He has multiple research publications on topics such as regional hydrological sensitivity over tropical oceans, the impact of climate change on tropical cyclone activity, patterns in sea surface temperature influenced by ENSO, variations in hydrological responses across tropical regions, and evaluating model biases in forecasting near-term tropical cyclone risks.
